On a recent trip to York we found a little ceramic shop which sold unpainted ceramic hedgehogs with lots of holes for holding paint brushes.
Today Bert the Hedgehog got his first coat on many colours and he loves it.

It has been a couple of weeks since my last burst of nonsense. We have been busy being creative, visiting my mum in Scotland and enjoying the peace and quiet of a cold January in beautiful North Yorkshire. I am planning on going back to the Wensleydale Railway tomorrow to help Matt with the rebuild/restoration of his steam loco. I haven't been since late November last year, when the Polar Express came to town. I am not that good in super busy places full of people and shouting children so I made myself scarce until it all calmed down again. My plan was to go back to the Tees Cottage Miniature Railway on Sunday just gone, but family matters ruled that out.
For a bit of a break Veronica and I went to Saltburn today. It has a funicular railway for getting down to the beach but it is closed until the "season" starts again. My old man's knees did not enjoy the walk down the hill and steps. My old man's thighs and lungs certainly did not enjoy the walk up was felt like 3000 steps to get back up to the town. We took some stunning photos of the beach and found a couple of fossils, nothing fancy, but it was good fun to spend some quality time together on a frosty morning on the beach. I saw two seagulls, and named them Steven and Stephanie, halfway up a cliff, a good 50 metres up it. It looked like Stephanie had just told a joke because Steven was rocking his head side to side and making a laughing noise for a good 10 seconds. I suppose you had to be there.
We stopped for lunch at a lovely cafe/restauranty place on the street that runs parallel to the sea front and had a really nice lunch, ate way too much but really enjoyed it. We then went for a walk around Saltburn. We found a quirky arty type shop and as we went in I took my facemask out of my jeans pocket and put it on. Inside it was a 7mm , 3 looped piece of thread which I inhaled. I could feel it trapped in my windpipe and immediately started to cough my way around the shop. You can imagine that was as popular as a fart in a fragrance shop. It was good for clearing the way through the shop though. I went outside to cough it up but couldn't budge it. It was more of an irritation than a threat to me.
We crossed over the road and Veronica popped into a jewellery shop for a nosey around. I nipped in next door to a specialist sweet shop. Everywhere I go I ask about Mint Puff Candy, a bar that I used to have as a child in the 1970s. It was luminous green, covered in "Chocolate" apparently, and melted in the mouth. I cannot find it anywhere so always make a point of going into sweet shops and asking. You never know. One day.
I could feel a coughing fit coming on so went outside. Veronica came out of the jewellery shop to take a phone call about a job offer (proud of you gorgeous lady). I managed to cough up the thread and was shocked at the thickness of it. I had it on the end of my finger and was trying to show Veronica it, she was still on the phone. It fell off my finger and I lost it, and the chance for some sympathy.
Meanwhile there were two middle aged ladies stood outside an art studio/shop, two doors down, discussing which painting they would like to buy. Veronica caught my eye and pointed at their feet. They were having a detailed conversation about a painting whilst stood in some freshly laid dog poo. It was all over one lady's shoes. They then went into the next door shop and carried it in there as well. I know it is naughty but I found this hilarious.
Looking forward to the railway tomorrow. Not looking forward to a cold day banging my head and scraping my knuckles on things though.
