I have a new set of R.G. Hardie practice pipes which give a beautiful mellow sound. They are also in the key of A, making them easier to play alongside other instruments. The traditional Great Highland Bagpipes are a nightmare as the chanter reed is cane and sharpens when moisture from the breath hits it, making it a right chuffer to tune and keep in tune.
For this tune I set the reed height to give me a perfect A. I then tuned the drone reeds to match. I recorded the main notes then also recorded the "seconds" alongside it. I think your average punter would call them harmonies instead of seconds. But then piping has words that defy logic and pronunciation anyway!
The strings sound in the background comes from my Korg Krome EX synthesiser, a big beautiful beast with hundreds of rich, deep sounds to pick from.
It is on the bagpipes page and the audio page if you want to download it. Below is the Youtube video for it.
